2. Resort and Parks:

• Disneyland Resort
The original theme park where Walt Disney himself walked, Disneyland opened on July 17, 1955. More than 650 million guests have followed in his footsteps and the park has grown into a world-class destination with two theme parks, three hotels and the Downtown Disney shopping, dining and entertainment district. Disneyland Resort recently underwent a significant expansion at Disney California Adventure park, including the additions of Buena Vista Street, which transformed the park’s gateway into the 1920s and 1930s Los Angeles that greeted a young Walt Disney, and Cars Land, a new 12-acre land inspired by the hit Disney•Pixars film “Cars” that immerses guests in Radiator Springs. The expansion also includes attractions such as Toy Story Mania!, The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure and the award-winning nighttime spectacular World of Color. Recent growth across the resort also includes a major refurbishment of the Disneyland Hotel and the additions of Fantasy Faire, a picturesque village square that welcomes guests to meet Disney’s princesses, and the new live show “Mickey and the Magical Map” at Disneyland park.
• Walt Disney World Resort

Since the first guests walked down Main Street, U.S.A., on Oct. 1, 1971, Walt Disney World Resort has become an iconic destination for millions of families around the world. Today, it is home to four theme parks, two water parks, five golf courses, 26 owned-and-operated resorts and hundreds of merchandise and dining experiences. Walt Disney World Resort Cast Members represent more than 80 nationalities and speak more than 50 languages. The largest single-site employer in the United States, Walt Disney World is also undergoing a massive expansion project across the resort. The expansion includes the 2012 opening of Disney’s Art of Animation Resort and continues with New Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom park, which nearly doubles the size of the original land. The Seven Dwarfs Mine Coaster is still to come in 2014. Disney also recently announced new creative details around a new AVATAR-themed land that will be part of the largest expansion in the history of Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park. And opening in phases, the new Disney Springs will transform Downtown Disney into a timeless and vibrant place that celebrates the turn-of-the century lakeside towns that dotted the Florida landscape.

• Tokyo Disney Resort

The first Disney theme park to be built outside of the United States, Tokyo Disneyland opened on April 15, 1983, and has become Japan’s most popular family destination. Owned and operated by the Oriental Land Company, Tokyo Disney Resort is home to two theme parks, including Tokyo Disney Sea, which opened in 2001, three Disney-branded hotels and the Ikspiari shopping, dining and entertainment district, which opened in 2000. Known as the Kingdom of Magic and Dreams to its Japanese guests, Tokyo Disneyland was modeled after the original Disneyland Park and recently celebrated its 30th anniversary.

• Disneyland Paris
As the most popular tourist destination in Europe, Disneyland Paris has welcomed more than 275 million guests since opening on April 12, 1992. The resort now includes two theme parks, seven Disney resort hotels, two convention centers, first-class golf courses and the Disney Village entertainment and retail district, the largest entertainment complex in France outside of Paris. In 2010, Disneyland Paris embarked on a major expansion that has seen the addition of several attractions at both its Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park, including Toy Story Playland and the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. In 2014, Disneyland Paris will also open a themed attraction based off Disney•Pixar’s Ratatouille.

• Hong Kong Disneyland
The first Disney resort built in China, Hong Kong Disneyland opened on Sept. 12, 2005 and has become one of the region’s top tourist destinations. The resort includes two hotels and recreation facilities and is a place that is uniquely Disney, but designed with local customs in mind. The park recently underwent a major expansion including the addition of three new themed areas: Toy Story Land (2011), Grizzly Gulch (2012) and Mystic Point (2013). In late 2016, guests will be able to take flight with Iron Man at the very first Disney attraction based on a Marvel character experience. Within the resort area, guests can also enjoy Inspiration Lake, the largest man-made lake in Hong Kong, and an arboretum displaying unique plant life.

• Shanghai Disney Resort
On opening day, Shanghai Disney Resort will feature classic Disney storytelling and characters blended with all-new experiences tailored specifically for the people of China. The resort will include Shanghai Disneyland; two themed hotels; a large retail, dining and entertainment venue; recreational facilities and a lake. The resort will be located in the Pudong District of Shanghai and will open in late 2015.

• Disney Cruise Line
Since the maiden voyage of the Disney Magic in 1998, Disney Cruise Line has become a global leader in the cruise industry, providing families with a complete Disney experience on the high seas. With three more ships eventually joining the fleet – the Disney Wonder (1999), the Disney Dream (2011) and the Disney Fantasy (2012) – guests can now sail from ports around the world to the Caribbean, Bahamas, Alaska, the Mexican Riviera and Europe. Disney Cruise Line continuously delivers creativity and innovation to guests through unique water coasters, exciting entertainment offerings and even magical portholes that bring cherished characters up close. 3. Studio Entertainment

• Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures
Disney has explored new worlds through magical storytelling since its first completely live-action film, Treasure Island in 1950. Across pirate-laden high-seas or down a mysterious rabbit hole, Disney’s collaborations with renowned artists and filmmakers has produced some of the most successful live-action family films in history, including Disney’s Alice in Wonderland andthe Pirates of the Caribbean films, with more epic adventures on the horizon including Maleficent and Tomorrowland.
• Disney Music Group
Disney Music Group is home to Hollywood Records, Walt Disney Records, and Disney Music Publishing. Marvel Studios, a division of Marvel Entertainment, produces movies based on the world’s most prominent and iconic comic book empire. With a library of over 8,000 characters, Marvel Studios creates blockbuster film franchises which to date include Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, and Marvel’s The Avengers. Marvel Entertainment is a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company

• Touchstone Pictures
The first film released under the Touchstone Pictures banner made waves on the big screen in 1984 with the hit Splash starring Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah. Since then, The Walt Disney Studios has released over 200 films from Touchstone Pictures, including Good Morning Vietnam, Dead Poets Society, Pretty Woman, Sister Act, Father of the Bride, Con Air, Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, Step Up, and The Proposal.
In 2009, The Walt Disney Studios finalized a film distribution agreement with the independently owned DreamWorks Studios, whose films including the critically acclaimed The Help and Steven Spielberg’s War Horse are released via Touchstone.
• Disneynature
Disneynature was launched on Earth Day 2008 with the mission of bringing the world’s top nature filmmakers together to share a wide variety of wildlife stories on the big screen in order to engage, inspire, and entertain theatrical audiences everywhere. Walt Disney was a pioneer in wildlife filmmaking, producing 13 True-Life Adventure motion pictures between 1948 and 1960, which earned eight Academy Awards®. Earth (2009), Oceans (2010), African Cats (2011), and Chimpanzee (2012) are four of the top five highest overall grossing feature-length nature films to date, with Chimpanzee garnering a record-breaking opening weekend for the genre. • The company operates in some of the highly competitive markets in the world, with numerous other companies producing the same products, (Universal Orlando to their Disney World) (Dreamworks to their Pixar)
• The company derives the large majority of its revenue from the volatile and unpredictable child market, as one day the world’s kids might like one thing and next another character or story
• The company’s success is highly linked to the overall economic condition as their products are the complete opposite of necessities, in times of despair people are noting going to have the money to go on a vacation or buy gifts at the Disney Store
• The markets they operate in have no guarantee of success, there is no guarantee that the movies are going to be blockbusters or that a new line of characters will prosper, and many times the company pours millions into development or production
• The Disney brand receives immense amounts of respect because of their track record, and this often times drives sales as consumers know Disney is a quality brand, however any slipup could dent the golden Mickey image
